Diary Event

Rowlands Castle ladies were the victors in this year’s Knight Cup, having previously won it way back in 1973. It is a County Foursomes Matchplay competition.

The competition started back in April with 53 Hampshire clubs competing for the cup. Rowlands Castle played their first match away at Petersfield winning on the 19th. The subsequent rounds were wins against Andover (home), Alresford and Tylney Park (both away).

On the 12th September, Rowlands Castle returned to Petersfield for the semis and final. We were drawn against Cams Hall in the semi-final and won on the 16th. In the other semi-final Southampton beat Corhampton.

The final in the afternoon saw the wind get up and a small shower came through making it difficult to read the greens. The final was tough with Rowlands Castle behind for most of the match playing a strong pairing from Southampton. Rowlands Castle ladies rallied and it was ‘All square’ on the 18th tee. A nail biting match for the supporters let alone the players! The Rowlands Castle pairing of Diana Littler and Kath Tusler played a fantastic last hole and won the on the 18th. Caddies Angie Steels and Chris Link were a great help to the players and Janet Doel who had played in the first four rounds was there to support the team. Whilst it was a team effort a special mention must go to Diana Littler who played in every round, and played all the courses prior to all the matches. Chris Bodey the Lady captain and other lady members were also cheering on the team.
