Ladies Golf

Ladies Golf

There are currently 151 Lady members. The Ladies Section welcomes golfers of all standards, from single handicap to absolute beginners.

The Ladies Captain is voted in each October at their AGM. The current Ladies Captain is Sue Slight. She is supported by Christine Richardson, Vice Captain and her committee who assist with the running of the Ladies section.

All new members are offered a mentor. For ladies new to golf the Mentor is there to explain the different aspects of the game, introduce them to members, show them round the Club and the Ladies Locker Room and play some rounds of golf with them. For more experienced players the mentor is on hand to introduce them to members and answer any queries about the Ladies Section, the Club and the various competitions held by the section. All new members receive a Welcome Book that is packed with information about the Ladies Section and the club and a copy of the rules of the Ladies Section.

The main competition day for Ladies is Wednesday, with an alternative day on a Saturday or occasionally a Sunday. The Ladies Section enters teams in several well-established external competitions such as the Stoneham Cup, the Hayling Trophy, the Legg Bowl and the North Hants Trophy. The Ladies also play in about 18 friendlies against other clubs in Hampshire and West Sussex. The County Delegate actively encourages the Ladies to enter the many and varies County Competitions run by the Hampshire Ladies County Golf Association (HLCGA).

There are a number of roll-ups on most days of the week where ladies arrange to meet friends for 9 holes or more. Many Ladies also play in mixed matches. There are a number of matches including friendlies with other clubs and also internal matches with the Seniors. The matches are usually followed by a light supper. There are also summer (knock-out) and winter (round robin) mixed competitions. For the more accomplished golfers there is the club’s AGM Cup and Arnold Trophy which are medal competitions open to both male and female members.

The Ladies enjoy the social side of golf with several of the key competitions being followed by a meal in the clubhouse. The annual Ladies Captain Day is a great fun day of golf followed by a meal and drinks in the Club House afterwards. There are also events for non-golfers such as the Annual Coffee Morning, the Christmas Lunch and Bridge Afternoon. RCGC’s Social Committee arranges events throughout the year for all Members and their friends and family and these are well attended.
